ELECTRICAL CHARACTERISTICS & APPLICATION DESCRIPTION
LM195 is a power transistor integrated component had many applications at power related regulator and limiter circuits, the multiple applications of LM195 transistor are also due to it is available in different types of the package with different electrical specifications.
Voltage specs
Collector to emitter voltage, collector to base voltage, and base to emitter voltage of the transistor is 42v, the same terminal voltage values will make the LM195 power transistor for regulator circuits and base to emitter reverse voltage is 20V.
Current spec
The collector current value of the Lm195 power transistor is different for each transistor package, for TO-3 and TO-220 it is 1.2 to 2.2A and for TO-5 it is 1.2 to 1.8A, then also the LM195 power transistor had a function to limit the current internally.
The quiescent current is 5mA, it is the current value consumes when the circuit is in idle condition and the base current is 5µA, it is the current value needs to trigger the transistor device.
Voltage saturation
The saturation voltage of the LM195 transistor is 1.8 to 2.0V, the saturation voltage value is responsible for switching operation.
Power dissipation & temperature specs
The power dissipation value of the LM195 transistor is internally limited and the operation temperature of LM195 is -55 to +150°C.
Uses of the LM195 power transistor
- Switching regulators
- Solenoid drivers
- Emitter followers

Characteristics curves of the LM195 power transistor

The figure shows the graph of collector characteristics, plotted with collector current vs collector to emitter voltage.
It is curved for TO-3 package of LM195 transistor, as we see when the collector current touches a particular limit, the voltage value is dipping down

The figure shows the saturation voltage characteristics, plotted with saturation voltage vs collector current.
The curve is plotted with respect to different temperature ranges, the curves show that at the initial stage the saturation voltage value depends on the temperature value but after a limit, both current and voltage values increases.
Current regulator using LM195 transistor

The current regulator circuit from the LM195 transistor datasheet consists of a 2n2222 transistor, voltage regulator component, and 1n4002 diode.
The Zener diode is used as the voltage regulator component and it makes a stable voltage and passes over to the LM195 transistor to regulate the current value at the circuit.
